The Curiosity Shop Part 1

There are so many curious sights we see every day!  Unfortunately our blogs can only give an overview -- I have a 73 + page journal to prove it!  So I'm going to post a few "Curiosity Pages," sharing some of the trivia we've noted.

Today I'll start with "Unusual Names."  Like towns:  Cheektowaga and Weeds- port NY; Ashtabula Ohio, Mishawaka and Shipshewana Indiana; East Chain, Baraboo, and Nut Bush WI; Eyota, Keister, Owatonna, Guckner, and Blue Earth MN; Pukwana SD;  Aladdin, Meeteetsee and Tensleep WY.

The names get weirder and more numerous as you go West:  in Utah Hell's Gulch, Goblin Valley, Dutch John, and Mussentuchit. In Arizona Two Guns, Tuba City, Mexican Water, Jack Rabbit, Show Low, and Snowflake (in the desert). In Colorado Punkin Center and Hugo. In Kansas Minneapolis, Manhattan, Bunker Hill, and Greenfield!  Napoleon Missouri!

For rivers there are the Maumee and Chagrin (OH), Kishwaukee (IL), Dead (AZ), Koshkonony (WI), Republican (CO).

Lakes: Tapawingo and Lotawana (MO)

Roads:  Sinbad (UT), No Name, Yoder, Voda (CO), Snokomo (Kansas)

Well you get the idea!  Strange and wonderful.  And obviously a lot of credit goes to the Native American languages.
