Day 28 -- Bye Chicago, on to Michigan

Despite little sleep last night due to Pearl Jam fallout, Hunter caught his train to the airport, and Jarad and I were on the road by 11. Decided we couldn't leave the city without a ride on the giant Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier -- awesome city view!
Also had a spin on my favorite rides, the merry go round and the swings!
I rode the zebra!
More centrifugal force than we expected!

Of course then we had to have lunch overlooking the pier at glass-walled Rava.
Cirque du Soleil has an hour-long show at the Pier. We got great last minute tix!
These Asian performers are so fearless! The last act was a huge metal mesh ball about 50 feet in diameter, inside of which five motorcyclists drove at the same time!
Headed out to Michigan then. Just by chance I found the big brick house in Bangor where Len and I lived 1976-7, caring for 8 handicapped men. It looked a little more run down, the maples trees lining the street were much bigger, and the 52 acre apple orchard much wilder!
The Van Buren County Mental Health Center at the end of the street has tripled in size!  Well, that's 36 years of progress!
Caught the sunset on Lake Michigan in the once sleepy little town of So Haven. Now it's a bustling tourist destination like Provincetown!  Being here has touched my heart deeply.  I love Michigan...
