Day 10! Tues 7/2 Vernal Utah

Started today the same way we ended yesterday, with a renewing salt water swim and hot tub. Water is such a precious friend here in this dry climate!  Can never seem to get enough!

Then had a wonderful bfast at a chain out here (like IHOP only MUCH better), called Village Inn, which had an amazing selection of PIES!  Jarad is showing the flip list and laughing "I just drooled!"

We learned many pie facts. Did you know Oliver Cromwell banned pies in 1644?  For 16 years it was a guerrilla act to eat pie!  Or that carrots used to be purple, red, or white until the 1500's, when the Dutch created orange carrots in honor of the House of Orange!  And the largest pumpkin on record weighed 1689 lbs!  We are learning something every day!

Drove south into Utah along spectacular Flaming Gorge, named for the red rock formations alongside. The Green River has been dammed at its south end since 1964, creating a reservoir and recreation area.  After that refreshing sight, we drove into increasingly dry, hot (98) but beautiful desert lands -- high up too, over 8000 ft. Numerous chemical companies process phosphate here in sketchy looking operations.

Arrived in Vernal Utah, dinoland tourist trap of the West due to nearby Dinosaur Natl. Park.  (The entrance is in Utah but the park is in Colorado!). Getting up early tomorrow to see the thousands of in situ bones and fossils there. Below is our kitschy hotel sign!
