Day 23 on 7/15 -- Heading East

Started the day with a sublime swim at the Salida Hot Springs aquatic center, right across the street from our motel. Only 5$!  Huge pool with diving board and swim lanes, hot pool and kids area. The spring is a constant 100 degrees F.  Nice on a cool rainy morning!

Headed north toward some threatening black clouds.  Maybe Jarad will post some photos!  You can see rain storms all around, then "boom," you're in one and can hardly see the road!

Every mt top was in clouds, so we decided against a ride up Pike's Peak. We did visit Garden of the Gods in the same town of Manitou Springs just west of Colorado Springs.  Interesting red sandstone formations. Very crowded!

The best part was a mother mule deer and her two fawns!  Cuter than Bambi!

We mailed home our third box of stuff we don't need. There were some interesting ads at the post office. One for a Mac and Cheese charity bake-off. And this:

Sorry we'll have to miss the action!

So tonight we are in Kansas still driving. Lost an hour at the border!  We are at 5811 miles as of this moment. Many windmills, corn and wheat fields, cattle. Very flat. Sad to leave the Rockies behind but the sunset was beautiful, and the sky is finally clear...

  1. I am enjoying following along with you! Your photos are beautiful, thank you for sharing them. I, now more than ever, hope to take a ride trip across the country as you are. It must feel good to be surprised by nature, it's beauty and the suddenness of noticing animals. You both look very happy in there photos! Good for you for being adventurers!
